One of the things I was most excited about when I first moved the D.C. was getting to see the cherry blossoms bloom. Even though where I grew up was only a 4 hour car ride away from D.C., I never made the drive up to see them. But now that I actually live here, I have no excuse this year!
Frolicking through rows and rows of trees blooming with pink flowers along the tidal basin was all I daydreamed about. I couldn't wait to take photos of these beauties with their delicate petals perfectly framing the monuments in the background. They were even predicted to bloom earlier than usual due to warm temperatures in February.
However, it turns out mother nature was playing a trick on us because March was cold, and it culminated with winter storm Stella. Unfortunately, the snowstorm ended up damaging the buds and only about half the blossoms survived the cold blast. So the peak bloom wasn't quite as dramatic as previous years, but for someone who was seeing it for the first time, it was still pretty magical and enchanting.
And to end this post on a sweet note...how cute are these cherry blossom doughnuts from Astro Doughnuts!
